Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study examined the impact of media students’ interest in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies on their perceptions of their professional future, considering rapid digital transformations in the media work environment. The study compared media students in Palestine and Malaysia. A descriptive-analytical approach was adopted, using questionnaires to collect quantitative data, alongside semi-structured interviews for qualitative insights. The population consisted of 582 students from five selected universities, with a systematic random sample of 232 participants, yielding 212 valid questionnaires. Findings revealed a high level of interest in AI technologies among students, with statistically significant differences favoring Malaysian universities due to variations in technical infrastructure, academic support, and practical training. Moreover, a positive and significant relationship was found between students’ AI interest and their perceptions of their professional future, reflecting awareness of AI’s role in career opportunities and adapting to the evolving media labor market. The study recommends integrating AI applications into curricula and offering training programs to build skills aligned with technological changes in media.
