Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The Journal of Contemporary Islamic Communication and Media @ Al-I’lam is inviting all scholars to submit papers for this edition. This journal is a platform for conceptual, philosophical and theoretical essays or debates, book or essay reviews relating to the communication directly or indirectly. The suggested areas must include Islamic values, views, and discourses on the following areas:

Media content analysis

Audience study

Communication crisis

Critical theories

Cultural studies

Digital media

Ethnography studies

Gender studies

Communication

Journalism

Media and politics

Media and racial

Media and wellbeing

Influence and impact of media

Media laws, policy and regulation

Media and religion

Media and overview

Negotiation and conflict management

New media

Public relations

Advertising

Social media

Media theories

Media and tourism

Other papers that cover the study area pertaining to diversities in media and communication are also welcomed.

Manuscript Submission (For journal manuscript)

All manuscripts must be typed in Microsoft Word and single spaced, Segoe UI, font 12 for the body, EXCEPT title (font 14), keywords (font 11), tables and figures (font 10). The margins should be Normal (2.54cm) and in A4 size.

The abstract should be written in between 250-300 words only with five keywords only (Malay language manuscripts must have an English abstract with English title with the same contents in English).

Please do not include any references in your Abstract. Make sure it serves both as a general introduction to the topic and as a brief, non-technical summary of the main results and their implications.

The title, theme and content of manuscripts should relate to media and mass communication.

The title should not be more than 15 words.

The main text should not be less than 4000 words and not more than 7000 words (excluding Abstract and References).

Your manuscript text file should start with a title page that shows author affiliations and contact information, identifying the corresponding author with an asterisk. We recommend that each section includes an introduction of referenced text that expands on the background of the work. Some overlap with the Abstract is acceptable (Please refer template).

For the main body of the text, there are no specific requirements. You can organise it in a way that best suits your research. However, the following structure will be suitable in many cases:

  1. Title
  2. Author’s name & Affiliation
  3. Abstract (Must start with a short introduction, following with Research Objective, Methodology, Findings/Results)
  4. Keywords:  5  to 6 words
  5. Introduction, Background of Study, Problem Statement, Research Objective
  6. Literature Review (Related Subtopics)
  7. Research Methodology
  8. Findings, Discussion
  9. Conclusion & Implication
  10. References (APA style only)
  11. MUST include a minimum of two citations from published articles of Al-I'lam Journal 

Please note, footnotes should not be used.

The manuscript is expected to be proofread before submission. Submission must be in Word file only.

Manuscripts submitted to Journal Contemporary Islamic and Communications media (JCICOM) must not be published elsewhere, under the consideration of other publication, either in the form of electronic or printed.

Authors may provide name of three reviewers from different institutions, complete with their addresses, designations and email addresses in a separate file.

The editorial board has the rights to make editorial changes to any manuscripts that are accepted for publication.
