The purpose of this research was to emphasise the importance of technological advancement in the Malaysian journalism industry. Furthermore, this research fills a research gap in Malaysian journalists’ and journalism students’ perspectives on the development of AI technology in the industry. Drowning from that, technological determinism (TD) theory was applied in this research to explain the relationship between technological development and the changes in news readers’ social attitudes. This research was conducted as a qualitative study using the interview approach. The researcher interviewed a total of nine interviewees, which included five Malaysian journalists and four Malaysian journalism students. According to the data collected, a total of three themes emerged: the opportunities AI brings to the journalism field, the challenges AI brings to the journalism field, and the future of the Malaysian journalism field integrated with AI. Findings revealed that AI could provide convenience and save the time of journalists yet cannot replace humans due to the lack of emotions. The interviewees perceived that AI technology will not be widely implemented in the Malaysian journalism field in five to ten years. In addition, this research highlighted that future journalists should be trained to adapt well to AI. Meanwhile, this research proved that AI could assist in reducing the journalist’s workload. Hence, the journalists would distribute more time doing in-depth news articles.
Jodie Ng Copyright (c) 2024 Jodie Ng https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-12-01 2024-12-01 4 2 10.33102/jcicom.vol4no2.111 JURURAWAT DI LAYAR PERAK: IMEJ JURURAWAT DALAM FILEM MELAYU DALAM ENAM DEKAD PASCA-KEMERDEKAAN MALAYSIA (1957-2017) https://jcicom.usim.edu.my/index.php/journal/article/view/112
The image of nurses has evolved along with changing times. While this phenomenon of the evolving image of nurses is discussed academically at the global level, it remains underexplored in Malaysia. To address this research gap, this study examines the image of nurses in Malay films from 1957 to 2017, through an analysis of thirty selected films that span three post-independence vicenniums. The findings indicate that Malay films continue to depict nursing roles that focus mainly on general and non-clinical tasks, with clinical roles rarely being included in the plot. Stereotypes such as strict demeanor and the portrayal of risks like sexual harassment remain dominant in Malay films up until the third decade. The study also finds an absence of male nurse representation in Malay films throughout the study period, even though the number of male nurses in the profession has been increasing. Additionally, the portrayal of a Muslim nurse who upholds noble values and practices Islamic ethics has been limited in Malay films. The film industry ought to fill this gap by portraying a more positive and professional image of nurses to elevate the status of the profession that contributes significantly to national welfare.

Keywords: Nurse image, nursing, nurse films, nurse character, perception towards nurses

Salilah Saidun Copyright (c) 2024 Salilah Saidun https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-12-01 2024-12-01 4 2 10.33102/jcicom.vol4no2.112 OPENING MOSQUES FOR NON-MUSLIMS: MUSLIM RELIGIOUS SCHOLARS COUNTER NEGATIVE MEDIA REPRESENTATION OF TERRORISM IN KENYA https://jcicom.usim.edu.my/index.php/journal/article/view/110
This study investigated measures taken by Muslim religious scholars to counter media representation of terrorism in Kenya. As country with diverse religious groups and unique terrorism experience, Kenya presents a unique context for the study. Muslim scholars in Kenya, therefore, play a critical role within Muslim communities as they look after their congregation. The phenomenological theory was used as a framework for the study. The study used qualitative approach and phenomenology method. The study involved 10 participants drawn from the community of Muslim religious scholars operating in mosques and religious centers in Nairobi. The scholars were purposively sampled. The data was generated through in-depth interviews, analyzed thematically and presented in narrative form. The study found that Muslim religious scholars had taken measures like opening the mosques for the public and reaching out to non-Muslim religious leaders as a measure to counter what they perceived as a negative media representation of terrorism as a result of directly linking Islam with terrorism. The study concluded that there is need for guidelines and policies on terrorism coverage that recognize the place and the sensitivities of the Muslim population in Kenya, to improve media representation of terrorism, and as well as differentiate between Islam and terrorism, as part of the guidelines, and training journalists on their implementation.
Abdullahi Abdi Sheikh Bernard Malakwen Jared Obuya Copyright (c) 2024 Abdullahi Abdi Sheikh, Prof. , Dr. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-12-01 2024-12-01 4 2 10.33102/jcicom.vol4no2.110 MARKETING COMMUNICATION STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION OF THE BANTUL REGENCY TOURISM DEPARTMENT’S INSTAGRAM @JELAJAHBANTUL.ID TO INCREASE FOLLOWERS IN 2023 https://jcicom.usim.edu.my/index.php/journal/article/view/114
The Bantul Regency Tourism Department has strategically positioned Instagram as a key platform in its marketing strategy.
